The ‘If Modica were Mariupol’ presepe was created in 2023 after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Deliberately monochrome, the only colour comes from the clothes of the Holy Family which seeks refuge in the bombed out remains of the portico. Palazzo Grimaldi is a burnt out shell and the clocktower has been destroyed.
