This presepe has grown by about a metre every year, and is now over 10 metres long. Over the years I have tried to place the presepe in the mid 1800’s, when the Corso was still an open river and Modica was ‘the Venice of the South’, and was still the City of a 100 churches. These have been put in the original locations. Neapolitan presepi do not use scale – everything is the same size, but trying to give depth to the scenes, the scale became important to give perspective, and has become increasingly complicated over the years!
