Chocolate

This was designed to be a typical Modican scene – a building on two floors with a man grinding the chocolate beans and a woman upstairs hitting the tray with chocolate in it to get rid of the air bubbles.    On the left, there is a frantoio, pressing the olives for the oil.

The structure is made out of polystyrene,  the houses of wood.  One motor drives both the chocolate making figures, while another powers the frantoio.

Above the grotta is a typical cluster of Modican houses,  while up on the hill – the least desirable part of town – a small grotta hosts the nativity scene  with the Magi approaching on horseback.  From down below only the farm animals are aware of what has happened,  while down in the town life continues as normal.
